Today we’re getting a little witchy with My Cauldron by Barbara Basso.

This fabulous piece is back from the framer, and she’s absolutely magical. Pun completely intended.

Kathy stitched this one in a zoom-bellishment class and finished it in no time flat. Even better, she kept telling me how much fun she was having while she stitched it.

That’s one of the things I love about Barbara Basso’s canvases.

At first glance, they can look complicated. There’s so much going on! A witch. A cauldron. The world’s tallest cat. Trees and bubbling potions and all sorts of little details everywhere you look.

But then you start stitching.

You break the design down into its individual elements and suddenly it isn’t overwhelming at all. One area leads naturally into the next. The stitches flow, the textures start appearing, and before you know it, you’ve made your way across the canvas.

They’re simply fun to stitch.

My Cauldron is a very manageable 8″ x 10″, handpainted on 18-count canvas. There’s plenty here to keep you interested without turning it into a project you’ll still be stitching three Halloweens from now.

And just look at all the opportunities for texture! That fabulous furry cat. The witch’s wild hair. The bubbling cauldron. The spindly trees. Each area has its own personality, but together they create one wonderfully quirky little world.

We’re gathering threads for kits now. I’m not even going to tempt fate by telling you when every last thread will arrive. Apparently there’s only so much magic one witch can perform.
