Ok, yes, he is a rodent, and yes this is the second rodent I have stitched but….. The first rodent was Fleur, a rodent wearing a tiara. Who could resist that. And now we are stitching a chinchilla floating in a coconut shell! This is Chinchillin by Heather Gauthier and it is just adorable.
We are one lesson in on our mystery class and I changed things up, we are stitching the chinchilla first and not the background.
Sometimes you just have to do Long and Short. This little guy was one of those times. I know most of us don’t love Long and Short but this is a good canvas to give it a try on. the chinchilla isn’t too big.

I work my Long and Short in layers. I start with the darkest color working all of it everywhere and build up to the lightest. I try to always bring my needle up in an empty hole and go down between the plies of a previous stitch. I choose to use 2 ply because honestly, while one ply looks better I’m much too impatient.
His floating coconut shell basket is Double Brick but I worked a little magic with Impressions to give it some depth and then a layer of very irregular Cross Stitches on top for texture. I think he’s pretty darn cute.

There are three more lessons, June 30, July 21 and August 11. If you would like to join us, here’s the link to signup for Chinchillin. We do have canvases in stock so your own cute little rodent can be on it’s way quickly. xo
Check out our sale section. I’ve marked down a bunch of canvases to make room for new. When they are gone, they are gone!
The newest of the new is in the What’s New section of the website. Stay up to date on new canvases by visiting that link often :-) You never know what might just have been released.
