Another lesson of the Lizard Collage is in the books. See, another book pun because there are so many new needlepoint books in our future.
This lesson was all about the dots, dashes and squiggles in the background. The dots are big beautiful eyelets. If you follow me, you know that I think the beauty of an eyelet is maintaining a large open hole in the center of the eyelet. I enlarge the hole and continue to work to keep it open as I stitch. The center doesn’t have to be in the actual center of the painted dot. Sometimes it’s more interesting when it is off center.
The big curved arcs in the background are ribbon. I wanted them to look like a running stitch on a crazy quilt. For me it is all about contrast of textures.
I love the squiggle down the side of the canvas so it gets a pretty fun stitch too! Next up will be the fancy schmancy lizard himself! Wait until you see him.
If you would like to stitch your very own lizard, here’s the link.
