My oh my, what a face. Sudden Realization by David Galchutt is our current mystery class and it is a stunner. Such a beautiful painting. I’m excited to be stitching her and adding even more detail to her, all while staying true to the art. She’s very different for me.
I know, I usually start with the background, but this time I’m changing it up! The face is first. It needed to be just as glamorous as the painting. To make stitching her easier, the guide has step by step photos so that you can clearly see what threads and stitches go where.
Tent Stitch, Long Stitch and Outline Stitch all worked with tiny threads to be soft and subtle.
Next we started playing with her under gown. I imagine a raw silk with slubs catching the light and movement. There are so many beautiful shades and shadows we needed light coverage.
Lesson two is in two weeks. More gown, her hair, the background, the flowers, where will we go? If you haven’t already joined the party, here’s the link. Canvases are in stock.
I’m sorry to report there are no snap trays for this canvas. I’ll make it up to you with fun stitches for the rest of the canvas.
Happy Stitching.
