What big beautiful eyes this little girl has! You already know I have a thing about polka dots, right? I also apparently have a thing for the big eyed girl paintings of the 1960’s. Oh well, at least I know myself.
Yesterday was lesson two of the White Cat Mystery Class featuring the art of Johanna Virtanen! Our kitty is developing quite the personality. Since I’m obsessed with her eyes they need to be really bold. They are just Tent Stitched but if you look at the right one you will notice the addition of a black ring that really makes her pupils shine.
Her ears are another 60’s flashback with their string art.
The real magic is the stitch for her body. The cat is painted essentially as one shape without a solid definition between the head and the body. We could have used the same stitch everywhere or we could have used two different stitches. I went somewhere in the middle. I designed a second stitch for her body that is a tall and a bit lighter than the stitch on her face and magically connects seamlessly to the stitch on her face. Magic!
The final touch is the addition of the outlines. It’s simply Memory Thread couched in position.
I’m excited to watch the flowers come to life. Wonder what I will do? Lesson three is August 4th. Did I say August? YIKES!

Love that stitch idea for the head and body! And I think that ring makes her look like a pirate!
She only looks like a pirate because the other eye isn’t finished. 😉 It’s basketweave and you know how slow I am at that.
