I mentioned that while I was working on the White Cat mystery by Johanna Virtanen that I was also editing the guide to bring another of Johanna’s canvases, Wings, to life. They really are similar canvases.
The background and face are complete on Wings, so now we get to do the fun stuff! Not that the background wasn’t fun, but I really do love creating beautiful fashions on canvas.
I can’t capture the shimmer of her wings. Trust me it’s soft and sparkly and oh so pretty. It’s a beautiful pattern stitched in Kreinik Very Fine (#4) Braid.
And her gown is even sparklier. A solid layer of T Stitch worked in four shades of Kreinik (#8) Braid. It shimmers! Don’t worry, we will put the patterns back in in the next lesson.
Her underskirt is the same stitch and thread combination as the body of the white Cat.
The black outlines are an important part of Johanna’s style. Like the cat they are couched Memory Thread.
Jamie is doing a fabulous job stitching our angel. I can’t wait to see the next installment.
If you would like you own little angel, here’s the link. We can ship Wings in installments or at the end of the project, whichever you prefer. Of course it’s not too late to join us for the final installment of the White Cat. Just a few more flowers need to sprout on that canvas.
Brenda Stofft will be here this week so stay tuned for lots more sparkly fun.

Ruth, what’s a good alternative to the Memory Thread now that DMC has discontinued it? I see the black used here and like the effect.
You could consider using Petite Very Velvet or Trebizond as they are about the same diameter. You just have to remember to not pull too tight when you couch. The other option is making your own Memory Thread. Use a fabric covered florist wire and wrap it with Soft Sheen FyreWerks or Neon Rays Glue Stick is my glue of choice in that case. xo
Love her!
thank you! xo
Hi, Ruth…How many classes do you anticipate for this darling canvas?
There will be 4 lessons.
