A few days ago I posted Ellen’s stitched version of Quiet by Kimberly Santini. Here’s another totally different interpretation of the same piece by a different Ellen. 🙂
Same canvas. This time stitched in an all over pattern with one thread. It’s magic. It’s as though we are seeing the sweet kitty through a screen or piece of lace. Darling.
This technique works great to showcase a beautifully painted canvas. Just remember to keep your thread very light. Two strands of Accentuate or a strand of Bijoux work great on 18ct. Consider Kreinik Very Fine (#4) Braid for 13ct.
Here’s the pattern Ellen used on Quiet.
Thanks to both our Ellen’s for sharing their art, and to Kimberly Santini for painting her muse.

Wow! Gorgeous look – light and delicate. This is what I love about needle point with Ruth — freedom to express ourselves as individuals, creating some of the most amazing canvases. Even when working with a stitchguide, I find that everyone’s canvas looks different, depending on where we start a pattern, where we start an overdye, or the subtle use of a different thread. This is carftsmanship and artistry at its very best! Thank you for inspiring us all Ruth!
Thank you. Love you all!
This is really fun!
Love seeing such different interpretations of the same canvas! Kinda makes me want more. ?
Wouldn’t it be fun if a bunch of stitchers all did the same canvas but they all went in different directions? 🙂 xo
My mom was so excited to be featured on your blog! Thank you for sharing her piece! We were both admiring (the other) Ellen’s interpretation of this canvas the other day. My mom has this hanging right near where she sits to stitch on most days so she can always look at it. It is really gorgeous in person!
OK, I have a question. Did she do the chicken wire pattern first, then stitch the kitty, or do the kitty and then do the wire over the whole thing? This is so fascinating to look at. Yes, I love them both, and both are a challenge. Thanks.
Only the chicken wire is stitched. The rest of the canvas is not stitched at all! All the pretty shading shows through.
