Our current Mystery Class is the Sirens by David Galchutt. David’s canvases are a tour de force of detail. Lots and lots of details. I love the details and choosing which to bring forward and which to allow to fade into the distance.
The faces are of course a detail we need to bring forward. I chose to do all of the facial details in sketchy long stitches worked with a simple ply or two of silk. It’s very much like painting. You have the option to stitch the bodies in Tent Stitch first and then add the details on top. I chose to omit the Tent Stitches.
Our sirens are part of an undersea nightclub act. They all need big dramatic hair. You know what I did with the center mermaid so now it’s time to give our girl on the left equally dramatic hair. Hers is long and flowing.
Now it’s time to start on those tails! This is where the magic happens. There’s a little bit of Tent Stitch and a fun Laid Filling Stitch but the real star of the show are the ribbon roses down the front of her body. Of course they needed crystals too. Wait until you see what’s coming next!
The halo behind her head is a fun new circle pattern. It’s light and soft and shimmery thanks to Petite Treasure Braid.
We have more canvases arriving in August. Now is the time to claim one of the canvases if you would like to stitch your very own Sirens. Lead time for canvases these days is very long. The canvas will come complete with stitchguide and I’ve even been making videos for some of the trickier bits. Here’s the link to order.
