Photos just don’t do it justice. We’ve had the models for Anna-Marie Winter’s Oriental Reflections in the shop for awhile now as we planned this class. Let me say they are show stoppers!!!!

Oriental Reflections is a contemporary design inspired by the beauty and serenity of a Japanese garden. In this design, delicate bamboo leaves and a shimmering river of silver appear to float on a background of silk brocade.
The background is worked in spun and filament silk to produce two separate brocade patterns reminiscent of the woven brocades found in the traditional kimono. Fine metallic threads, worked into the silk brocade, reflects the shimmering river of silver flowing through the background. Delicate bamboo leaves, worked in a combination of spun and highly reflective filament silk, grow gracefully along the banks of the river.
Students will learn techniques for creating the leaves of the bamboo – outlining, padding and laying spun silk on the canvas as well as overstitching a background with filament silk. Couching techniques are used to work the flowing line lines of the river directly onto the surface of the background stitches.
You can choose to work Oriental Reflections as a three-dimensional kimono or as a smaller canvas embroidery shown below. Stitched on congress cloth this design is simply delicate and breathtaking.

These two pieces are gorgeous! I've been admiring them since you put the models up and have been pestering Kay, Pat, and Lisa every time I'm in the shop, asking when the class will start. Yippee!
