Today we’re climbing into the wayback machine for a visit with Elsie the Elephant by A Kimberly Design.

Elsie was one of our Mystery Classes way back in 2018. I stitched her, loved her, and then—as sometimes happens—she waited patiently to be finished.

Well…

She’s finished! YAY!
She’s back from the framer! Double YAY!

And I absolutely love how she turned out.  I’m sending her off to a very special little Olivia and hope she loves her.

Elsie is adorable from the tip of her trunk to the tip of her tail—and yes, that tail is a tiny braid. There are silk flowers everywhere, wonderful stitches and textures, and a fabulous border that only Kimberly could dream up and paint.

But my favorite part of the finish may be the simplest.

Every Mystery Class has a coordinating magnet, and Elsie’s magnet happens to feature the adorable little elephant herself. It seemed silly to tuck it away, so we incorporated it into the framing. The magnet sits right on the frame, looking stinking cute and adding one more little bit of personality to the finished piece.

Sometimes it’s those unexpected details that make a finish really special.
