Sometimes we fall in love with a canvas and then the reality sets in. I’ve got to stitch this thing. WOW! What was I thinking? There’s a million colors here. They all blend so pretty from one shade to the next. How can I stitch it and make it pretty? Keep it true to the art?
That’s the challenge of our current Mystery Class, White Cat by Johanna Virtanen. This is such a beautiful happy painting and I love all the subtle blending of the colors. My challenge is to keep all the parts I love about the painting while adding the depth that we can achieve through needlepoint all while having fun doing it. Are you up for the challenge? Today was the first class of this mystery.
Let’s start with the background…. The colors are yummy. I found just the perfect shades of Pearl Cotton #8 overdye! Yep, Pearl Cotton #8. The colors are perfect. I selected a pretty open stitch that is a fairly large size and worked the same stitch over the entire background shading between three colors. Pretty! The stitch allows all the colors to show through adding just a bit of interesting texture.
Next we started the cat, stitching his face first in a smallish pattern worked with Floche. You know how I feel about Floche, right?
Next class is in two weeks, more cat? Flowers? What will we stitch? If you’d like to join us for real we have canvases in stock and additional threads will be here any day. Here’s the link.
